Class Description:

Elementary Conversational Spanish

 

            This course will focus on elementary conversational aspects of Spanish, but will also include limited grammar instruction and some rote memorization. Some Scripture, Bible stories and Christian children’s songs will be used to reinforce lessons. Students will be evaluated primarily through verbal discourse with the instructor and among fellow students with limited written evaluation (correctable quizzes).

 

Supply Requirements: Loose-leaf binder with paper or spiral-bound notebook with two-pocket folder (for handouts), writing instruments. 

Optional: Spanish Bible or New Testament  (Reina-Valera 1960)

 

Out of class work: The instructor will provide approximately one hour of weekly out-of-class work for student in between class sessions.

 

Scope and Sequence: 

  1. Introduction to conversational Spanish

  2. Greetings and introductions

  3. Descriptions of people and places

  4. Numbers 0-100

  5. Adjectives (colors, size, shapes)

  6. Pronunciation

 

High School Spanish I-A

 

This one-half credit course will focus on basic Spanish conversation, grammar and vocabulary for high school students. Additionally, this course will utilize a student’s basic knowledge of Bible passages to enhance learning experience. 

 

Supply Requirements: Loose-leaf binder with paper or spiral-bound notebook with two-pocket folder (for handouts), writing instruments. 

Optional: Spanish Bible or New Testament (Reina-Valera 1960)

 

 

Out of class work: The instructor will provide approximately two hours of weekly out-of-class work for student in between class sessions.

 

Scope and Sequence:

  1. Introduction to conversational Spanish

  2. Pronunciation

  3. Greetings and introductions

  4. Descriptions of people and places

  5. Introduction to Spanish grammar (present tense verb conjugation, articles, nouns, adverbs, adjectives)

  6. Basic vocabulary

  7. Numbers 0-1000

  8. Directions
